“A Day of Fairies…”🌹🦋
Are you also today years old when you first came to know that there is a day for fae/fairies?
Yes, there is. On 24th June, “International Fairy Day” is celebrated annually worldwide. It is a joyful, popular global holiday dedicated to mythical entities, fantasy folklore, and the magical power of miracles and imagination. This whimsical day encourages people of all ages to take a break from technology and embrace their real lives with cozy, reviving vibes brought by different kinds of magical stories, nature, and wonder.
The main celebration of this day typically starts from afternoon or evening. People usually observe this occasion by building fairy gardens to decorate their surroundings, reading mythological books of enchanted tales to spark their imaginations, scavenger hunts for “hidden” magic, dressing up as fairies with fairy wings, pixie dust, crafted DIY wands, baking fairy bread and glittery cupcakes, etc.
However, as we dive in various mythical lores, we can find out some dark sides of the mythical creatures too. For example, in some stories, fairies are often revealed to be dangerous, alien, and malicious entities. Rooted in ancient folklore, the fae were once widely feared, often blamed for abducting healthy human infants and replacing them with their offsprings called “changelings”, cursing livestock, and spreading disease. Also, according to some “dark” fairy tales, popular story characters like Peter Pan were believed to be actually demons or evil beings. The fae were as well believed to be associated with the “Unseelie Court”. They were portrayed with much darker traits such as, their characteristics of luring travellers, temporal distortion, bloodlust and many more. As a result of these lores and the pervasive fear of fairies, witches and other mythical entities from these fairy tales, many people used to believe in a number of protective superstitions and followed lots of rituals. Accordingly, people would frequently leave offerings of milk and bread at their doors to appease them, or wear their coats entirely inside out to avoid being kidnapped or hexed while traveling at night, and many more such beliefs and habits.
In summary, we can conclude that, there are more positive sides than negative sides of these classical fairy tales and mythical stories. This day is indeed one of the best days to relive our lives with our close ones together with love, beautiful miracles, ethereal quintessence and childhood nostalgia of life.
