“The Lunar Strawberry at the End of June…”🍓🌕

The June full moon, often called the Strawberry Moon, occurs near the summer solstice, 21st June annually. After a few moments, it is going to be visible from almost everywhere in the globe. Just like every other full moon, this moon is also unique in its own way. This full moon of June is the last “micromoon” (opposite of a “supermoon” because it will appear smaller than it’s usually size) and the first full moon of summer in this year at the same time.

Traditionally, it marks the peak of strawberry harvest. That is, it signifies the ripening of wild strawberries, almost like helping to remember the time/date for something specific on a calendar. It is also known as the Rose Moon in Europe and the Hot Moon.

•Why is the name Strawberry Moon?

The name itself has nothing to do with the color and overall looks of the Moon. Rather, the name comes from the Native American Algonquian tribes, who used it as an indicator/measurement scale for the brief, sweet season when wild strawberries were ripe and ready to be harvested.

•Appearance: Due to its low trajectory, the moon passes through more of the Earth’s atmosphere, which scatters light and often shines in a reddish, orange, or golden hue.

•Low Path (2025-2026): In the Northern Hemisphere, this moon follows the lowest path in the sky, mimicking the sun’s path during the December winter solstice, usually on 22nd December.

•Major Lunar Standstill: The 2025/2026 full moon of June is exceptionally low. Because it coincides with an 18.6-year cycle where the moon reaches the extreme northerly and southerly positions on the horizon.
