Dhaka University is the premier university of Bangladesh and is often referred to as the “Oxford of the East”. However, the current reality paints a different picture. The university campus is increasingly occupied by unauthorized individuals, including drug-addicted and mentally unstable persons. As a result, students often face an unsafe and uncomfortable environment on the campus. In particular, female students are sometimes subjected to harassment, which creates a deep sense of insecurity in what should be a safe academic space.

It is not only female students who are at risk; male students have also reportedly been victims of unprovoked attacks and verbal abuse in certain instances. Such incidents raise serious concerns about campus safety and the effectiveness of existing security measures.

When students come to study at a prestigious institution like Dhaka University and are exposed to such hostile circumstances, it negatively affects their mental well-being, academic focus, and overall university experience. The responsibility to address these issues clearly falls on the university administration.

A university must remain a safe haven for learning and intellectual growth. Therefore, the authorities of Dhaka University should take immediate and decisive steps to restrict the entry of outsiders and strengthen campus security to ensure a safer environment for all students.
